Reflecting on where I stood just a few months ago, I couldn’t have imagined how much growth and transformation this journey would bring. The events of October 16th marked the beginning of a series of changes that would ultimately shape my approach to work, relationships, and self-reflection.
Looking back, I realize now how much that experience with the raccoons—and the unexpected chain of events that followed—taught me about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of community. It was during this time that I began to see my role as a janitor not just as a job, but as a part of a larger narrative of support and connection.
Fast forward to today, January 30th, and I find myself at a crossroads—one where I’m ready to embrace the future with open arms. Change can be daunting, but it’s also an opportunity for growth, and in this case, it has been nothing short of transformative. One of the most significant changes I’ve experienced is the departure of my co-worker, the night custodian. While I won’t deny that her absence left a void, I’ve come to see it as a positive shift in my work environment. The stress that once lingered during evenings has lifted, and the days feel lighter, more manageable now that things have settled into a new rhythm.
Her replacement, coming from a different department, brought with them a fresh perspective and an entirely different attitude. It wasn’t without its challenges—there was certainly a learning curve—but the difference in approach has been night and day. To know that my worth is recognized and valued, even without seeking it, has been a welcome affirmation.
I find myself gratitude-filled as I reflect on this change. It’s easy to overlook the small moments of progress, but stepping back, I see how far I’ve come. For that, I’m thankful—not just for the circumstances that brought me here, but for the lessons they’ve taught me about flexibility, patience, and the importance of surrounding myself with positive energy.
As I look ahead, I’m reminded of why I love this work. It’s not just about cleaning floors or emptying trash cans; it’s about being part of a team, supporting one another, and finding joy in the little things that make each day unique.
Here’s to the future—a future filled with new challenges, growth, and the promise of continued learning. I’m ready for whatever comes next
